2013 Info.

LSESU SCHOOLS 2013   

NOTE: LSESU Schools 2013 took place on Saturday 7th December, 2013. Thank you all for a great day, and we hope to see you next year.)


The LSESU Schools Debate Tournament is one of the largest British Parliamentary style debate tournament for secondary school students in the UK, and is organised annually by the LSE SU Debate Society. Held on the LSE campus, this competition represents an exciting opportunity for young debaters to experience a large-scale tournament, and to improve their rhetorical skills with feedback from some of the most experienced debaters in the university circuit. Several participants have gone on to debate competitively at the university level to considerable success.

Date

LSESU Schools 2013 will be held on SATURDAY, 7th DECEMBER, 2013. On the day, registration will be held at the New Theatre, East Building, LSE (on Houghton Street, opposite the Old Building). Please see the map below.

Registration information

Speaker and school registration will open on THURSDAY, 7th NOVEMBER, 2013. Registration will be ONLINE, ON THIS WEBPAGE (URL: http://schools.lsedebate.org).

The registration fee will be £35 PER TEAM.

Paying by cash: please pay the registration fee in full during morning registration, on the day of the tournament. We regret that teams that are unable to make payment will not be able to participate.

Paying by cheque: please address the cheque to "LSE SU Debate Society". Cheques must be mailed before the tournament to:
"LSE SU Debate Society,

The team cap will be 80 TEAMS.



FAQs

How do I get to LSE?
The LSE is located in central London. The most convenient Underground station is Holborn, which can be accessed via the Picadilly and Central line. From the main exit of the station, turn left and head down Kingsway until Aldwych. Alternatively, you may choose to alight at Temple, which is on the District and Circle line. Please refer to the map below for directions.

Is there a pre-released motion?
There is no pre-released motion. All rounds will be impromptu. 

Can I leave after a few rounds?
In order for teams to be able to break to the finals, they have to be present for all four preliminary rounds. Leaving before the break for finals is announced would render teams ineligible for the break as well as speaker rankings. 

Is there a dress code?
There is no dress code. School uniforms are not compulsory.

What meals are provided?
Only dinner will be provided. Participants will have to get their own lunch. There are many affordable dining options available on Kingsway, such such Subway, Pret-A-Manger and Wasabi. 

What materials are allowed during the tournament?
Pre-prepared written materials can be used as reference during the tournament. However, the use of electronic devices to Google or look up information during preparation time is strictly forbidden. While teachers are allowed to observe the participants, they may not provide any assistance.
